Who is Feminoise?
Feminoise is an indie rock/alternative/shoegaze wannabe project. In real life I’m Melissa, a 4th grade teacher.
Tell us about your career so far.
I started playing music in college because my neighbor had a guitar. So, I bought a bass at a pawn shop. That became a band. Once I had kids the music kinda stopped. But during lockdown I decided to try again, and Feminoise was born.
Every finished song feels like a milestone. I always wonder if I have another one in me. But I was really happy with the streams “Karma Conspiracy” got on release day.
How would you describe your sound to a four-year-old?
My son says it’s sounds like a robot singing over crunchy guitars. He’s 12 😜.
Now elaborate on that…if you’d like.
I like poppy but melancholy melodies and distorted guitars.
What’s your favorite album of all time?
My favorite album…ugh…I love “High Violet” by The National, “On the Line” by Jenny Lewis, and “Faith” by George Michael. And honestly, I’m obsessed with “The Tortured Poets Department” from Taylor.
What does musical success look like to you?
Success is being happy with what I make. I do it for myself first.
What is next for you?
I have a collaboration with Stolen from the Sky coming June 5. It’s an upbeat indie rock/dreampop jam. Layers of vocals and cool synths. I’m really excited about it. (Editor’s Note: It’s awesome! Listen here!)
