Who are these mysterious members of the Blue Grazer Records family? 💙
We are Sophie, Kevin and Joel and together we’re the Multivariate Outliers from Heidelberg, Germany. We try not to think about genre too much while creating music and just follow our ideas where they take us. That being said, we usually gravitate towards an acoustic singer-songwriter style of music, alternative rock, but also a little bit of trip-hop every once and a while.
Tell us about your career so far.
Sophie and Kevin have been making music together since 2018 when they played together in an eight-piece live band. During the pandemic, Kevin started getting into home recording and ever since, recording music has become his main creative outlet. In 2022, “Embracing The Illusion” was released under the Multivariate Outliers name. Since then, Joel has joined Sophie and Kevin to form the power trio the MVOs are today.
How would you describe your sound to a four-year-old?
Imagine you’re feeling really cold and alone, but then you get tucked into a wonderfully warm bed. The way you feel in that moment is what our music sounds like.
Now elaborate on that…if you’d like.
Our music often has a melancholy quality, but never without moments of comfort, consolation and solace. Our lyrics and vocals take center stage in a sonic world painted by intricate and atmospheric arrangements, inviting you to share in the emotions they convey.
What does musical success look like to you?
To us, musical success is making a connection with our listeners. The songs we write are usually addressed to ourselves – think of them as a musical diary of sorts. All we hope for is for someone to read in this diary and make a meaningful connection with it.
What is next for you?
Late in 2024, we are releasing our second album “All The Colors On Display” with ten tracks of new original music. “Colors” will be a collection of music that features acoustic instruments mostly. If you’ve listened to our first album and have enjoyed our distorted guitars and electronica elements, then you can look forward to our third album for which we have most of the material already written. We’re excited to start work on it as soon as we have wrapped up work on the second album!
