International Indie Spotlight: Stolen from the Sky

What’s going on with that pic? That’s not you obviously?
I am Adam Strazzanti and I am Stolen from the Sky. I’m from Birmingham UK. I think of myself as being post-alt-prog-metal or something similar. I don’t really have a genre though, I just do what I want and if people vibe with it, great.

Ok…so you’re not going to explain the pic? Tell us about your career then.
I’ve been a student of music since I was 13 when I first picked up a guitar. I’ve been fortunate enough to have a lot of great teachers over the years as well, both formal and through exposure to other great musicians in band settings. I was most notably in a band called Tsien around Birmingham from 2006 to 2011. We recorded one album together which never really saw the light of day…until 2022 when I remastered and released it onto Spotify. After that I got to writing my own material after a decade of inactivity and my first album/EP ‘Mistakes Were Made‘ was the result. Aptly named because I was kinda figuring a load of shit out as I went, so I wasn’t aiming for perfection. My sophomore album ‘Echoes‘ is probably my proudest achievement so far. I think I really nailed down my sound with it. Even if all of the tracks are vastly different to one another, I feel like they all sound like me.

How would you describe your sound to a four-year-old?
If I were describing my music to a four-year-old, I’d probably say it musically and lyrically tells stories and each song takes you on an adventure from start to finish, and none of those adventures are supposed to be like the others.

Tell us about your favorite album of all time, or an album that’s special to you. And please don’t say your photo album of animals with googly eyes…
There’s an album called “Chronoclast” by a band called Buried Inside that needs to be listened to as a single 40-minute piece of music that will always have a special place in my heart. I don’t listen to it often, but I love the concept and it was executed brilliantly.

What does musical success look like to you?
Musical success for me would simply be having a diverse listener base around the world. Having people say to their friends ‘Hey, I heard this cool tune the other day and I think you’d dig it’ and then sharing it with them. I don’t really need it to go any deeper than that

What is next for you?
I’m in a collaborative phase I suppose at the minute. You can probably expect a few more collaborations with other bands within the indie community, and I’m working on and adapting some tunes with my brother that we wrote when we were teenagers that will be my next ‘solo’ Stolen from the Sky releases. After that probably back to flying solo for a while. (Editors Note: Adam also has a fantastic ‘side-project’ called Robot Birthday Party. We highly recommend that you check them out here.)

Where is the best place for people to follow you in order to stay up to date on all things Stolen from the Sky?
The best place to stay up to date with my goings on is Facebook or Spotify. I have new music, it will be there.
